History

In 2010, in collaboration with UNICEF, we organized Right to Education Act (RTE) consultations in eight regions of Maharashtra to find out region specific issues and concerns in implementation of and compliance with RTE norms. Based on our findings, since 2012, our programs in Maharashtra have been focussed on strengthening the implementation of the RTE – this year we covered nearly 700 villages, resulting in overall coverage of over 1,000 villages spread across Aurangabad, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, and Nandurbar Districts in the last 3 years.

our work has focussed on the formation, training, and sustenance of School Management Committees; mobilization of indigenous village volunteers; and spreading awareness on the RTE Act through sessions, activities, and public posters/banners – especially in backward tribal communities where seasonal migration poses big obstacle to children’s education.

Additionally, we continued our Drop In Centre Program (started in 2012-13) in Aurangabad and Jalgaon for the educational rehabilitation of out of school children / working children.

2015-16 Coverage: 23,816 children covered across Aurangabad, Jalgaon, Nandurbar and Kolhapur Districts

Current Programs:

  • Education Program
  • Prevention Program
