The Child Labour (prohibition and regulation) Act, 1986 makes it illegal to hire children under 14 years old in specified occupations and processes, which are considered unsafe and harmful to child workers and regulates the conditions of work in non-prohibited employments.

Unlike the Child Labour Act, which still provides no protection for children aged 14 to 18, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2000 seeks to protect any children below the age of 18 from exploitation and neglect.
